Hi Bob!

First of all I should thank you! It is because of you and Ujena that I really got into running and staying healthy! I remember when the runs at the Ujena Jams were a quick 2 miler! Then they became the 5K. Once I started training to run the Ujena 5K it just snowballed. I started running 10Ks, then half marathons, and then Marathons! I now run between 15-20 miles a week. Staying fit definitely keeps us young! I think it is unfortunate when I see how many people really have no idea how to exercise, or eat healthy. Maybe this group will get a hold of a few people and teach them how to get fit!

You Rock Bob!

Hi Bob!
Great idea! I have been running since about age 12. Racing on and off.A huge part of my life.
Do it on your own,any time you want,or even better, find a running group(every town has one!)for a evening or weekend social run.
Also total body fitness is also important! For you runners, this means stretching/Yoga( a fantastic cross train for runners!) a couple of times a week for an hour. Other Cross training to balance out the muscle groups. Make it fun!!
I have a chin up bar on a main doorway in my house.I make it a point to do 10-15 chin ups every time I walk under the bar. Do one legged hops up your staircase. etc.. play with it !you will be doing fitness without a second thought!
Get off the machines and enjoy the great outdoors! In my opinion to many are addicted to their treadmills and stationary bikes. So much more fun outside!
Me : Runniing, Yoga, bicycling,Tae kwon Do,Rowing(Scull),Some strength training, swimming, Water sking, snow sking. And LOVING LIFE!!!

What a great group. Thanks for starting it. I've always been fairly active, but had put on some weight in my late 30s. I hit 40 and said: enough: Lost the weight by jogging and changing my eating habits. At almost 44, I'm in the best shape of my life thanks to running.
I got into running almost three years ago when I joined a half-marathon training clinic put on by the Big Sur International Marathon. I met fantastic people through the clinic and have stuck with it since. I've done three marathons and hope to do my fourth this fall or winter. The social connections are wonderful and - obviously - the health benefits are essential.
I run with a group on Wednesday mornings and on Saturday and Sunday mornings so I get at least three solid runs in every week. I add running or cross training as apprpriate to whatever I have on the schedule. A small group of us are training right now for a half marathon on February 21.
I also participate in some organized cycling events, but I tend to not train much for those. I run and then try to put in a bit of saddle time just prior to the ride. I'm sporadic about adding weight training. I'm trying to be more consistent about it.
I enjoy pretty much anything outdoors - hiking, swimming, fly fishing...
I work at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and we have a really great health and fitness plan and program here that is helping our staff get - and stay - active and fit.
There's no excuse for not getting out and doing something active when you live in a place like Monterey County!
